Lets be honest. I contacted Buckhead Tea Company through Instagram because I was so excited to find a tea company local to me after Teavana closed. North Atlanta is lacking in the tea department and I am hoping to see the CommuniTea here grow!
Buckhead Tea Company provided me with this sample for the purpose of an honest review.
They are offering my followers 20% off their purchase using code “METIME”. I do not get any compensation for purchases. (Valid the month of June 2018)
Packaging
My Dragonwell Green Tea Sample from Buckhead Tea Company arrived with 3 other loose leaf tea samples and two tea bag box sets. The loose leaf samples arrived in black, lightproof, resealable bags. On the front is the company label (see above) and the back has a description of the tea and brewing instructions. I did find it a little difficult getting this particular tea to scoop out of the package but did not have that problem with less “leafy” teas.
Upon opening the bag, I was greeted by the sweet, semi-floral, earthy scent that Wild Grown Dragonwell Green Tea is known for. The aroma was incredibly pleasant. The leaves were beautiful to look at and showed multiple shades of green.
How to brew
The instructions on the bag say to steep at 180 degrees (F) for 2-3 minutes. From my experience, that is too long for a Dragonwell so for my first taste I steeped at 175 degrees (F) for 1 minute which is my norm for a Dragonwell. I did experiment with their temperature and steeping time to see the difference.
The experience
When following the steeping instructions on the bag (180 degrees for 2 minutes) I found the tea to be a little bitter. The aroma was still pleasant with a sweet, floral fragrance.
When I steeped the Dragonwell to my preferences (175 degrees for 1 minute) I got the sweet, floral flavor that I love. It was much smoother and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
In both cases, it steeped to a really nice light yellow color. I found that I was able to re-steep this tea 3 times easily, adding an additional 10-15 seconds for each cup. I was able to get a 4th steep out of it but it was much lighter in flavor and a bit to watery for my taste.
Overall, I loved this Wild Grown Dragonwell Green Tea from Buckhead Tea Company. From the moment I opened the bag I was engulfed in the sweet, floral aroma that I love in this kind of tea. You can tell they are sourcing from a high quality and I highly recommend giving them a try.
