Matcha Mocha By Adagio Teas
Matcha Mocha Green Tea
Adagio Teas
$29.00USD for 2oz
I was a little nervous about trying Matcha Mocha from Adagio. Typically, I am a traditionalist when it comes to Matcha and had never tried any with flavor before. since it is hard to go wrong with MOCHA flavor, I decided to add a sample to an order. I am so glad that I decided to branch out!
Packaging
My Matcha Mocha sample arrived in a resealable sample bag. It arrived completely airtight and as long as you re-seal it properly, it will keep for the use of the sample. The package includes steeping instructions which is very important if you are unfamiliar with making Matcha. I was thrilled to see (even though I checked before I purchased) that there was no sweetener. So many companies add artificial sweeteners to their Matcha’s. Not Adagio!
As I said before, I had never had flavored Matcha before so I was not sure what to expect when I opened the package. Would it smell like Mocha? or Matcha? Would it look different from traditional Matcha? I carefully tore open the bag and took a breath. I love that you can smell the wonderful earthiness of the Matcha with a slight chocolaty undertone.
How to Brew
The instructions on the bag say 1 teaspoon per cup 170 degrees F for 2 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily it sifted. It was even smoother than my traditional Matcha, which I have never had a hard time with. It was a beautiful green color and I just loved the aroma. As the water heated up, I found myself wondering if it would taste more earthy or more chocolaty. Once the water was heated to the appropriate 170 degrees, I poured a little water into my Matcha bowl and prepped my first flavored Matcha Tea. I didn’t really take the time into consideration since it doesn’t “steep” like a leaf tea.
The Experience
Matcha Mocha was absolutely an experience. While the aroma is incredibly earthy with a chocolate undertone, the TASTE is the opposite! The Mocha was very prominent and the earthiness was much more subdued. I was blown away by how much I loved the flavor. I started thinking about all the ways that this flavor could be enjoyed. My first experiment- a Mocha Matcha Latte!! YES!!! I’m a real milk drinker (use almond or coconut milk if you must) so I heated up 8oz of milk, frothed it up and there it was. My new morning happiness.
I didn’t stop there! Next, was an iced Mocha Matcha Latte. I started sharing it with friends who were looking for a yummy replacement for coffee. I even managed to convert a few people! And to think, I almost didn’t add that sample to my cart.
In Conclusion…
I could not have been happier with the Matcha Mocha from Adagio Teas. This is a fantastic option for someone who wants the health benefits of Matcha without the earthy flavor of green tea. This tea would make a great alternative to coffee. Like any matcha, it does take some preparation and there is definitely a learning curve to making it. I absolutely recommend Matcha Mocha to anyone looking for a nice chocolaty flavor while keeping in the Matcha family.
