Poison Ivy By Grimoire Tea
Poison Ivy Green Tea
Grimoire Tea
$8.00USD for 8-10 Cups
I purchased a set of 10 samples from Grimoire Tea, including this Poison Ivy sample. This was an exclusive sample set that was offered, through Instagram, to the first 10 people to claim one. After claiming, I received permission to use the teas on my blog.
Ingredients
Green Tea, Hibiscus Petals
Packaging
I absolutely LOVE how teas are usually packaged from Grimoire Tea. My teas did not come in their normal packaging since I purchased a sample pack. When you purchase tea from Grimoire Tea, they arrive in the cutest little glass bottles with the most unique labels giving the name and description of the tea purchased. The top is reinforced by a solid layer of colored wax. This company could not have been more unique with their packaging! I just love it! In truth- this is part of the reason I wanted to sample their teas. The only thing that would make the labels better would be steeping instructions.
My samples arrived in little resealable plastic bags. Absolutely appropriate for what I paid for! When I opened the bag, the hibiscus smell was overwhelming (in the best way possible!). The green tea she uses is a Gunpowder Green Tea which can be very vegital on its own, but mixed with the hibiscus there is an incredibly pleasant sweetness that is incredibly welcoming. The deep green of the curled Gunpowder leaves is also nicely offset by the deep red of the hibiscus flowers. I could not wait to steep this one!
How to Brew
Since there were no steeping instructions included, or on the website, I went with what I know. A good Gunpowder Green Tea can steep between 170-180 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. I decided to steep it at 175 degrees F for 3 minutes. It probably could have sat for an additional minute but I was very happy with my initial brew. The aroma was incredibly pleasant and there was no bitterness at all.
The Experience
Poison Ivy stayed true to its name by steeping to a stunning red color that even made my toddler go “Ooo, Mommy! RED!”. The sweet aroma from the hibiscus flowers continued through each sip. The subtle sweetness followed to the flavor. Poison Ivy would make a fantastic Iced Tea during these hot summer months.
I was able to get two solid steeps from this tea before the flavor of the hibiscus flowers were too light to taste. I added 30 seconds to each steeping but kept the 175 degree temperature. Poison Ivy would be perfect to make a cold brew iced tea. Sadly, I do not have enough in my sample. (Just means I need to get more!)
In Conclusion…
Overall, I was incredibly pleased with Grimoire Tea’s Poison Ivy Green Tea. I loved the sweet smell and the subtle sweet flavor the hibiscus flowers provided. Hibiscus is the perfect match to the Gunpowder Green Tea that was chosen for this tea. I will absolutely be purchasing more to make iced tea this summer! I will probably add a little bit of rock sugar to bring out a little more sweetness.
