Cool Down With TeaPops

July has just started, summer has just barely really begun, and every day hits 90+ºF. It is HOT. I don’t know about you, but my son LOVES ice cream and ice pops. Unfortunately, those are full of sugar and dyes and all kinds of things you don’t want them eating a lot of. But what other options are out there? Believe it or not, herbal teas make INCREDIBLE TeaPops! Since you are making them, you control how much sugar, or other sweetener, gets put in them.

What do you need?

This is the best part! You can make TeaPops with Herbal Teas you already have at home! If you do not have any Herbal Teas at home, check out my friends at Adagio for some fantastic options!!
My son LOVES Wild Orange Blossom from TeaVana. Since Teavana is out of business, we have found a fantastic replacement from Adagio called Blood Orange Herbal Tea.

I find it easiest to make my concentrate in an IngenuiTea tea maker but you can make the concentrate however is easiest for you.

You will also need some kind of ice pop mold. There are a ton of options out there. This one is from Amazon and was originally purchased to make ice pops for my son while he was teething. But there are larger options for older kids.

Lets Review What you need:

  1. Tea Maker- I recommend the IngenuiTea from Adagio
  2. Herbal tea of your choice
  3. Sweetener of your choice
  4. Ice Pop Mold
  5. Tea Spoon- I recommend the Perfect Tea Spoon from Teavana (Amazon)

Now you are ready to make your TeaPop Concentrate!

How to Make TeaPop Concentrate

  1. Add 6-8 Tea Spoonfuls of your chosen herbal tea to your tea maker. You need more tea to make the concentrate then you would normal tea. This keeps the tea from tasting watered down.
  2. Fill your tea maker with hot water (I recommend boiling the water then letting it sit for 2 minutes)
  3. Add your chosen sweetener (optional). I use just a couple rocks of Beet Root Sugar Crystals from Teavana (Amazon). You can use honey, agave nectar, sugar, anything you want to sweeten your tea. Many herbal teas are sweet enough without added sugar. If you are happy with the taste of your tea, don’t put any added sweetener!
  4. Let your tea steep for 15+ minutes. Since it is an herbal tea you can steep it as long as you want. The longer it steeps, the stronger the TeaPop’s will be. I usually let mine steep for around 30 minutes.
  5. Fill each mold until they are about 3/4 of the way full. Some molds will give you a “fill to” line which is very helpful. Remember, liquid expands as it freezes so you do not want to fill all the way to the top or you’ll make a mess.
  6. Stick them in the freezer!! I like to make them either early in the morning so they are ready after dinner or at night so they are ready the next day.

Need Help Picking A Tea?

Not sure which tea to try? Adagio has fantastic sampler sets to get you started! Here is one of my favorites:

Herbal Orchard Sampler
Orchard Herbal Sampler
blood orange – Deep vibrant color and sweet flavor. Hearty with a good balance of orange peel dryness and fruit juiciness.
raspberry patch – Like fresh homemade jam: juicy and tart, slightly sweet, not overwhelmingly tangy and a lovely fragrance.
berry blast – A delicious blend of natural fruits and spices. Bold and slightly tart flavor, with a juicy clean finish.
wild strawberry – Sweet strawberry and sugared rhubarb aroma, beautiful warm color, pleasantly aromatic and not super sweet.

Want To Spruce Them Up A Bit?

TWO fun ways to add a little extra to your TeaPops

  1. You can ADD fresh fruit to your TeaPop!! Once you have filled the mold, add some cut fruit, then freeze!
  2. Want to add a second flavor to your TeaPop? Make your first tea. Fill the mold half way. Freeze. Once the first half is frozen, make your second tea and repeat the process!!

These treats are sure to keep everyone in your family happy all summer long!!

  1. I remember when I was younger and we had the metal glasses. You know the different colored ones? We use to put our sweet tea in them and add a spoon and freeze. We thought those were just the coolest things ever! I think I may have to try some of the flavored teas this way.

  2. I LOVE tea and this is a great idea for changing it up a little from iced teas to frozen tea. Forget the kids, I’m gonna try this for myself! Thanks for breaking it down into easy steps.

  3. This is awesome, I still have that mold too from when my little guy was teething. I can’t wait to try this (we’re big tea drinkers)!
