$12.90USD for 3.5oz (100g)

I was introduced to Teavivre by a Tea Friend on Facebook. She told me that it was some of the best teas she had ever tried. With that glowing recommendation I went to check out their site. They had a fantastic promotion going where you could get 5 FREE samples if you paid the $4.90 shipping. I snagged one white, green, black, oolong, and pu-erh tea. After I placed my order I contacted the company and they ended up sending me a second set of the same 5 samples to use for Tea Trivia Tuesday on Instagram! I am so excited to be able to share these teas with my followers!

Packaging

My two sets of samples arrived in a large silver heat sealed package. Inside each big bag were my 5 smaller samples in miniature versions of the large bag. On one side of each individual bag is the name of their company and their motto “Tea for Life”. On the back is the name of the tea, ingredients, origin of the tea, shelf life of the tea, and steeping instructions. That is a lot of information on these cute little sample bags! And when you go to the website you get so much more information about the tea!

I was a little disappointed when I opened the package. The website advertises individualy wrapped tangerine peels stuffed with white tea. It was a litle disappointing to open the package to loose tea and a few pieces of peel. I understand that this is just a sample and hopefully when you purchase the tea in larger amounts you actually receive what is advertised on the website.
I opened the little sample bag with my Tangerine Peel White Tea and was immediately greeted by a sweet citrusy yet earthy aroma. You could distinctly differenciate between the leaves and the large tangerine peels that were in the package. I couldn’t wait to brew this tea to see how the citrus transferred to the tea as it steeped.

How to Brew

Teavivre recommends brewing their Tangerine Peel White Tea at 203ºF for 5-8 minutes. However, if you look on their website that is if you are making a full cup. Since I prefer the Gongfu Method when possible, there are separate instructions available. For the Chinese Gongfu Method they still recommend heating the water to 203ºF for 7 separate steepings: one 3-5 second rinse, 20 seconds, 25s, 35s, 45s, 60s, 90s, 140s.

Even after the 5 second rinse the sweet citrus aroma from the tangerine peel aroused the senses. I fed the rinse to Finnegan the Fish and got ready for my first real steeping.
The first steeping only sat for 20 seconds so the initial flavor was very light. Slightly earthy with very little citrus flavor. Huge citrus smell, but the flavor just wasn’t coming through yet. By the 3rd steeping at 35 seconds the sweet citrusy flavor was the most pronounced. The white tea brought a light earthiness to it.

The Experience

Teavivre’s Tangerine Peel White Tea steeped to a sunny yellow color. The leaves brightened as they brewed and the tangerine peel got sweeter with each steep. This tea was not astringent at all. It left a nice fresh flavor on the tongue.
I really enjoyed the light citrus flavor that came with this tea. I do not like strong citrus flavors in my teas but this was just enough. This is a tea that you could sip on a cool summer morning and also on a cold winters day as a reminder that spring and summer are on the way.

In Conclusion

While this may not be a tea that I would keep on hand to drink daily. It is one that I would pull out every once in awhile as a nice treat. It is a tea that I will highly recommend to friends and family looking for the health benefits of a white tea while still looking for a bit of light flavor.
This tea would do well in the evening with a fruity dessert as well as in the morning to help give you a nice boost.
