The Beauty of Blooming Tea

In the tea world, there is not a lot more beautiful than Blooming Tea, also known as Flowering Tea. To watch these cute little balls bloom into a gorgeous flower is absolutely magical! They can be scented and/or flavored. I really like the Primula White Peach Blooming Tea. Each bulb is individually packaged and shows you right on the package what the flower will look like. I was greeted by a pleasant but light scent of peach as I opened each package. I could not wait to steep these.

In order to get the full experience, I highly recommend having a glass tea pot or similar to steep these. They are absolutely beautiful to watch and you do not want to miss a second of it! Primula has a beautiful 40oz glass tea pot that comes with 6 Blooming Teas and 3 different loose leaf teas!! This tea pot also has an infuser for brewing loose teas. It is a great deal to get you started or to add to a growing collection!

The Magic of the Bloom

The craft of tea folding is an ancient Chinese art that was reinvented in the 1980’s with the creation of new blooms and styles.

Each bundle consists of dried tea leaves that are hand wrapped and sewn, using cotton thread, around a flower and then allowing them to dry. Blooming tea balls are usually made from white or green tea but can be found as a black or oolong tea. As they steep, the bundle opens, emulating the blooming of an actual flower. The entire process takes about 5 minutes and is absolutely incredible to watch.

According to Chinese tradition, blooming tea symbolizes long life and harmony. Making it the perfect tea to enjoy with your family and friends.

How to Brew Blooming Tea

Since Blooming Tea’s are primarily White or Green tea, it is important to follow steeping temperatures for this type of tea so you do not burn the leaves causing your tea to be bitter.

What you need:

  • A glass teapot
  • A Blooming Tea Ball
  • Water to the correct Temperature- 175ºF for White or Green, 195ºF for Black or Oolong
  • TIME to relax and watch the magic happen.

The process is incredibly simple. Place the Blooming Tea Ball inside the pot, add hot water, allow 5-10 minutes for the bloom to open.
